Periods: 3,4,5,6
Groups: 13,14,15

Metals in mixed groups = Solids

Physical Properties:

  • Most of the elements in this group are made out of silver
  • Most of the elements in this group are soft
  • Most of the elements in this group are lightweight

Chemical Properties:

  • Most are not reactive
  • Aluminum is nonmagnetic
  • Most of these metals are good conductors of heat and electricity

Interesting facts:

  • In space, if unprotected pieces of metal touch each other, they stick together permanently.
  • 70% of metal is only used once then discarded. 30% is recycled.
  • Led is the oldest metal.

Common Uses:

  • Aluminum-Pop Cans
  • Lead-Batteries
